Netflix has revealed information on their upcoming release, Jay Kelly. The film is directed by Noah Baumbach and written by Baumbach and actress Emily Mortimer (who previously wrote episodes of Doll & Em and The Pursuit of Love and will also appear in the film).

After his 2022 adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel, White Noise (a film that divided critics and audiences right down the middle), and the awards season darling that was 2019’s Marriage Story, Jay Kelly is the next picture under Baumbach’s exclusive deal to write and direct films for Netflix. Each project will be allowed a short theatrical window before landing on the streaming services, allowing for awards season consideration.

The picture’s official logline is cleverly vague but hints at a character who discovers his true self late in life: “Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn’t know himself.”

Not much is being revealed thus far beyond Clooney playing the titular role and its loaded supporting cast that features Billy Crudup, Laura Dern, Stacy Keach, Riley Keough, Emily Mortimer, Patrick Wilson, Nicôle Lecky, Thaddea Graham, Jim Broadbent, Eve Hewson, Alba Rohrwacher, Lenny Henry, Josh Hamilton and Baumbach’s wife, Greta Gerwig

Along with the director, David Heyman and Amy Pascal are producers.Jay Kelly will be released in theaters on November 14, with a streaming debut date on December 5.
